What to expect

Yoga is practiced with bare feet and loose stretchy clothing. I provide supports such as blocks and bolsters, but I encourage you to buy a mat so you can develop your own practice at home. Yoga is not competitive. I ask all yogis to complete a health form, so I can give alternative postures and avoid giving instructions that will put the body under unnecessary strain.

A TYPICAL CLASS:

All classes begin by coming into stillness with a guided exercise to quieten the mind, relax the body and to connect with our breath in preparation for our yoga practice.

All classes include a range of postures (asanas) from seated, lying, standing, twists, balances and inversions. We work individually and occasionally in pairs and threes. As classes are small, everyone can progress at their own speed and receive individual attention. We take time to prepare the body and develop our intuition. So as we work gradually towards more demanding postures, we feel confident in listening to our bodies and knowing when we have gone far enough.

Each class ends with around 10 minutes relaxation (pratyahara) to allow the body to adjust to any changes. This may include guided meditation or breathing (pranayama).
