About Jill's Yoga

I first started practicing yoga in 1998 in my early 30s. I was a frazzled secondary school teacher, struggling to achieve a work/life balance.

I was looking for a regular class that would help me to destress, unwind and improve my flexibility and general well being. This started me on a continuous journey. I have experienced different styles of yoga and attended courses and retreats and feel lucky to have trained with the Inner Yoga Trust. Yoga can be transformational and my life has definitely changed for the better!

As I further my own practice I am fascinated by the yoga of Vanda Scaravelli and her long time student Diane Long. This style of yoga fosters a deep connection with the spine, it is elusive but profoundly satisfying and never boring. We begin to find ways to release our tension, wake up new ways of moving and discover lightness and space in the body, so we breathe and move more deliciously.

My explorations into meditation have led me to Total Yoga Nidra and I have trained with Uma and Nirlipta, founders of Total Yoga Nidra.

I also completed another course with Uma,

Well Women Yoga Therapy Teacher Training. She is such an inspiration.

I also attend workshops run by John Stirk, author of The Original Body and I am discovering the Feldenkrais technique. I am constantly looking for new ways to move the body that avoid conflict and maximise ease.

I am fortunate to have been taught by Jenny Beeken, a founder of the Inner Yoga Trust.

"Inner Yoga takes the classical asanas together with the philosophy and spiritual aspects of yoga and teaches them in a way that can transform the body, mind and emotions, touching the heart of our being."

I qualified as a registered nurse in 1989 which has been invaluable for my medical knowledge of the body and 'dis-ease'. I also keep a current first aid certificate.
